About alcohol server certification
Most states require people who sell or serve alcohol — bartenders, servers, cashiers, and delivery staff — to complete responsible beverage service training and, in many cases, pass a certification exam. Well-known examples include Texas's TABC certification and TIPS-style programs used across the country. These programs teach how to verify age and spot fake IDs, recognize and respond to intoxication, refuse service safely, understand alcohol's effects, and grasp the legal responsibilities (including dram shop liability) that come with serving alcohol.
Requirements, accepted programs, passing scores, and renewal periods vary by state, so confirm the rules for your state and employer. These practice tests cover the core, widely shared principles of responsible beverage service.
