What does the term 'application pressure' refer to in air brakes?

APPLICATION PRESSURE refers to the amount of air pressure delivered to the brakes when the driver presses the brake pedal (the foot valve/treadle valve). CDL air brakes. The HARDER the driver presses the pedal, the MORE application pressure is sent to the brake chambers, producing MORE braking force. The driver controls braking by modulating pedal pressure. If you have to keep increasing application pressure to maintain the same braking (brake fade), or if it takes high application pressure to slow down, the brakes may be overheated, out of adjustment, or have other problems. An air pressure gauge shows system pressure; some vehicles also show application pressure. Knowing that application pressure = the braking air pressure controlled by pedal force is commonly tested.
