About the Alabama CDL exam
The Alabama CDL exam is administered by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Like every state, Alabama adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $36.
- Skills testing: Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) drive test sites.
- Alabama requires a separate intrastate authority for drivers under 21 operating within state lines only.
To get started, read the official Alabama handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
What's in the Alabama exam: Practice tests for the Commercial Driver's License written exam. Questions reflect the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver's License Manual that all states adopt as the basis for their CDL exams.
