For the USCIS writing test, how many sentences must an applicant write correctly?

Correct answer

At least one sentence out of up to three dictated sentences must be written acceptably to pass

  1. A All 3 dictated sentences must be perfect
  2. B At least one sentence out of up to three dictated sentences must be written acceptably to pass
  3. C Five sentences must be written
  4. D There is no minimum

Why this is the answer

USCIS WRITING PASSING REQUIREMENT: The officer dictates up to 3 sentences. The applicant must write AT LEAST 1 SENTENCE ACCEPTABLY to pass the writing component. This is the same threshold as the reading component (must read 1 out of 3 sentences aloud acceptably). STRATEGY: If you are unsure about a sentence, write it as clearly as you can — if you make an error, you still have additional sentences to demonstrate your ability. The full naturalization English requirement includes: Speaking English (demonstrated throughout the interview), Reading (read 1 of 3 sentences), and Writing (write 1 of 3 sentences). Some applicants (age 50+ with 20 years LPR or age 55+ with 15 years LPR) are exempt from the English requirement.
