About the District of Columbia Notary exam
The District of Columbia Notary exam is administered by the District of Columbia Office of the Secretary. Like every state, District of Columbia adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.

- Commission term: 5 years.
- DC notaries are commissioned by the Mayor's office; must be a DC resident or work in DC; remote online notarization authorized.
