Why this is the answer
USPS has formal procedures for damaged and undeliverable mail (often called 'nixie' mail). Items with unreadable addresses go through address research, mail recovery, or return-to-sender processes — not improvisation. The exam is testing knowledge of and respect for procedure. (1) Don't guess — wrong destinations create customer service problems and may misdeliver private mail to wrong recipients; (2) Don't dispose — discarding mail is a serious offense; (3) Don't take home — mail in employee possession outside work is a major violation; (4) Use the proper damaged/undeliverable channel. Every USPS facility has designated bins or procedures for this exact situation. The right pattern: identify the issue + use the established procedure + let the system do what it's designed to do.
