ASVAB Shop Information — Basic Plumbing and Electrical Questions

Plumbing and electrical questions in the SI subtest test pipe types, fittings, wire gauges, and basic residential wiring concepts. These questions cover the most-tested items in both trades.

Pipe types: COPPER — durable, resists corrosion; used for water supply. PVC (white) — rigid plastic; used for drain/waste/vent (DWV); not suitable for hot water under pressure. Wire gauge: Lower AWG number = thicker wire = carries more current. 14 AWG = 15 amp circuit. 12 AWG = 20 amp circuit. 10 AWG = 30 amp circuit (dryers). Never oversize the fuse relative to the wire — the wire must be the safety limit.
