About the Michigan CDL exam
The Michigan CDL exam is administered by the Michigan Secretary of State. Like every state, Michigan adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $25.
- Skills testing: Michigan SOS facilities or authorized third-party testers.
- Michigan was among the first states to fully implement the FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirement for all new CDL applicants.
To get started, read the official Michigan handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the Michigan Secretary of State.
What's in the Michigan exam: Practice tests for the Commercial Driver's License written exam. Questions reflect the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver's License Manual that all states adopt as the basis for their CDL exams.
