About the New Jersey CDL exam
The New Jersey CDL exam is administered by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Like every state, New Jersey adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $125 (multi-year license).
- Skills testing: New Jersey MVC CDL skills test sites (Edison, Eatontown, Toms River).
- New Jersey has three dedicated CDL testing sites and is among the states with the highest CDL fee in the country, reflecting a 4-year license term.
To get started, read the official New Jersey handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
What's in the New Jersey exam: Practice tests for the Commercial Driver's License written exam. Questions reflect the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver's License Manual that all states adopt as the basis for their CDL exams.
