After evacuating students from the bus in an emergency, what should the driver do?

Once students are off the bus, the driver must move them to a safe location well away from the bus and from traffic, fuel, fire, or other hazards — the manual commonly references a distance of at least 100 feet in the direction that avoids the danger. Students should be kept together and supervised, and the driver must account for every child to be sure no one is missing or still on the bus. Designating responsible older students to help and having practiced evacuation drills make this far smoother. Keeping the group together and counted prevents a child from wandering into further danger.
