About the Tennessee CDL exam
The Tennessee CDL exam is administered by the Tennessee Department of Safety. Like every state, Tennessee adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $26.
- Skills testing: Tennessee DOS driver services centers.
- Tennessee requires CDL applicants to schedule all skills test components (inspection, control, road) in a single appointment at the same site.
To get started, read the official Tennessee handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the Tennessee Department of Safety.
What's in the Tennessee exam: Practice tests for the Commercial Driver's License written exam. Questions reflect the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver's License Manual that all states adopt as the basis for their CDL exams.
