Why should cosmetologists wash their hands before and after each client?

Handwashing before and after each client is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of infection, because the hands are a primary route by which pathogens are transferred. Washing removes dirt, oils, product, and many microorganisms from the skin. Cosmetologists should wash with soap and warm water, and may use hand sanitizer as a supplement (not a replacement) when hands are not visibly soiled.
