Search the road and surroundings ahead, to the sides, and behind for hazards, other vehicles, and changing conditions. Evaluate how those hazards could affect you and what could go wrong. Execute the appropriate action — adjusting speed, changing lane position, or communicating with other drivers — to maintain a margin of safety. SEE is a continuous process that keeps the rider thinking ahead rather than just reacting, and it is a core defensive-riding concept the licensing exam tests.
