About the South Dakota NCLEX exam
The South Dakota NCLEX exam is administered by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. Like every state, South Dakota adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- NCLEX + state licensing fee: approximately $200 NCLEX fee + $100 SD fee.
- State nursing board: South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- South Dakota is an NLC member; South Dakota's healthcare system relies heavily on nurses who practise across the South Dakota-Nebraska-Iowa border under the compact.
To get started, read the official South Dakota handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 70%, and then schedule your exam with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
What's in the South Dakota exam: Practice questions modeled on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), organized by client need category as defined by the NCSBN test plan.
