About the Texas NCLEX exam
The Texas NCLEX exam is administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Like every state, Texas adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- NCLEX + state licensing fee: approximately $200 NCLEX fee + $186 TX fee.
- State nursing board: Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON).
- Texas is an NLC member; Texas has the second-largest registered nurse workforce in the US and was one of the original members of the Nurse Licensure Compact.
To get started, read the official Texas handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 70%, and then schedule your exam with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
What's in the Texas exam: Practice questions modeled on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), organized by client need category as defined by the NCSBN test plan.
