About the Illinois Notary exam
The Illinois Notary exam is administered by the Illinois Secretary of State. Like every state, Illinois adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Commission fee: approximately $10 application.
- Commission term: 4 years.
- Illinois notaries are commissioned by the Secretary of State; must be an Illinois resident and 18 or older.
