About the Texas Notary exam

The Texas Notary exam is administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Like every state, Texas adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.

  • Commission fee: approximately $21 application.
  • Commission term: 4 years.
  • Texas notaries are commissioned by the Secretary of State; must be a Texas resident and at least 18; $10,000 surety bond required.
