An inverted triangle (point down) red and white sign is a YIELD sign. It means slow down, prepare to stop if needed, and give right of way to traffic on the road you are entering or merging with. Unlike a stop sign, you do not have to come to a complete stop if the way is clear — but you do have to give other traffic priority. Yield signs are common at on-ramps to highways, at roundabouts, at uncontrolled intersections where one direction has priority, and at merge points.
