About the Washington CDL exam
The Washington CDL exam is administered by the Washington Department of Licensing. Like every state, Washington adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $54.
- Skills testing: Washington DOL licensing offices or authorized third-party CDL examiners.
- Washington was an early adopter of the FMCSA electronic drug and alcohol clearinghouse requirement for CDL employers and applicants.
To get started, read the official Washington handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the Washington Department of Licensing.
What's in the Washington exam: Practice tests for the Commercial Driver's License written exam. Questions reflect the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Commercial Driver's License Manual that all states adopt as the basis for their CDL exams.
