About the California Motorcycle exam
The California Motorcycle exam is administered by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Like every state, California adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $42 (Class M1/M2 in DL fee).
- California's CMSP (California Motorcyclist Safety Program) is state-run and waives the DMV skills test; programs offered statewide.
