The Maryland DMV Permit exam is administered by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. Like every state, Maryland adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.
- Exam / licence fee: approximately $72 (included in DL processing fee).
- Maryland requires 60 hours of supervised driving (10 at night) for applicants under 18; the permit period is 9 months minimum.
To get started, read the official Maryland handbook (linked above), practice with the tests on this page until you consistently score above 80%, and then schedule your exam with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
What's in the Maryland exam: Practice tests for the standard car learner's permit and driver's license written exam in every US state. Questions cover road signs, rules of the road, and safe driving practices drawn from each state's official driver handbook.
