About the New Mexico DMV Permit exam
The New Mexico DMV Permit exam is administered by the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division. Like every state, New Mexico adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.

- New Mexico requires 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night) for applicants under 18; the permit period is minimum 6 months.
