About the Tennessee DMV Permit exam
The Tennessee DMV Permit exam is administered by the Tennessee Department of Safety. Like every state, Tennessee adopts the federal standards as a baseline and adds state-specific requirements, fees, and procedures.

- Tennessee requires 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night) for applicants under 18; the permit period is minimum 180 days.
